Friendship Day: A Day For Your Friend, Buddy, Dost and Yaar

On the first Sunday in August, Friendship Day is always celebrated. It will be celebrated this year on August 1, 2021. It encourages people all over the country to reconnect with their friends and express their gratitude for one another, as well as reminds them why they are our best friends. Everybody celebrates this day in their own unique way.

National Friendship Day was established in 1919 by Hallmark. It was supposed to be a day for individuals to send cards to each other to commemorate their friendship. The market, however, had dried up by 1940, and it eventually died out completely. Then, in 1998, at the United Nations, Winnie the Pooh was named the world's Ambassador of Friendship. The United Nations formally acknowledged the 30th of July as International Friendship Day in April 2011, although most countries celebrate International Friendship Day on the first Sunday of August.

There are no hard and fast rules for celebrating Friendship Day. The beauty of all friendships is that they are all unique from one another. This gives you and your closest friend the freedom to do whatever you want, celebrate in your own unique way, and relive the moments you've shared.

Everyone is so busy nowadays that they can't organize a huge day out for each other, but best friends may find a number of ways to remember and honor their relationship no matter what their circumstances are.

On Friendship Day, we write essays in school about what friendship means to us and why our friends are the best. Give them handcrafted greeting cards, take them on a picnic, and bring eatables from home to share with them.

Aside from expressing your love and appreciation for your friends, here are some ideas for making Friendship Day extremely special:
  • Celebrate this day with old friends and new ones you haven't met yet!
  • Send greeting cards, e-cards, or a bunch of flowers or chocolates to brighten their day.
  • Plan a day out with friends, meet them for lunch or dinner, or take them to the movies.
  • There has been a never-ending stream of films about friendship. Some Bollywood films about friendship will make you miss your buddies! We may watch 3 Idiots, Queen, Fukrey, Kai Po Che, Rock On, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Yeh Jawaani Hai Diwani, Rang De Basanti, Dil Chahta Hai, Anand, Yaarana, and more movies together. These films depict the unbreakable bond between friends.
  • Some popular TV shows, such as Made in Heaven (Karan & Tara), Kota Factory (Uday, Vaibhav & Meena), Family Man (Srikant & Talpade), F.R.I.E.N.D.S (Joey & Chandler), Never Have I Ever (Devi, Ramona & Fabiola), etc., have friendships that give us true friendship goals.
  • Gather all of your buddies for a Friendship Day celebration. There's no need to wait for a special occasion like a birthday or a holiday! Just keep it casual so that everyone can unwind and enjoy each other's company.
  • To commemorate your friendship, listen to these Bollywood songs: Tere Jaisa Yaar Kahan, Tera Yaar Hoon Main, Yeh Dosti, Jaane Nahin Denge Tujhe, Tu Meri Dost Hai, Hai Junoon, Masti Ki Pathshala, Aaya Mausam Dosti Ka, etc.
  • Finally, reconnect with old friends by calling, Zooming, or Face-timing them to share a laugh, catch up on their life, or remember the good times you shared with them in the past.

So, more than any other day, this is the perfect opportunity to tell all of your besties, near and far, how much you care for and respect them. It's an opportunity to reach out to old friends, new friends, and even people you see every day of the week and do something special to honor your friendship.
