5 Reasons Why You Should Adore Delhi
Delhi, the capital of India, has a rich history and culture. It's one of my favourite cities, and I've wanted to visit it since my secondary school days. But I got the opportunity to be here in 2010 when I was posted and brought up here for my first job. It's like a dream come true. I have stayed in Delhi since 2010. Now that I am a Dilliwala, there is so much about the city, its vibe, culture, and so much more that I love. The rich history, the variety of food, fashion, people, and so much more- the city has a lot to love. Here are the top five reasons I adore Delhi.
1. A Rich History
Delhi is a historically significant city. In ancient times, the city was known as Indraprastha, where Pandavas (from the Mahabharat) lived. Delhi features a number of eye-catching landmarks such as India Gate, Humayun Tomb, Qutub Minar, Red Fort, and others that not only exhibit the city's history but also its gorgeous architecture, making it one of the most attractive and unforgettable cities to visit.
2. A Variety of Food
The best part in Delhi is its diverse cuisines. There is no part of Delhi that does not have street food to offer – all at very reasonable prices. Delhi offers a mixture of North Indian food, Mughlai Cuisine, Punjabi food, and mouth-watering street food. The famous foods you must try are the Chole Bhature from Chache Di Hatti, Parathas from Parantha Wali Gali, Chaat, Momos, Kebabs, Kulchas, etc.
3. Fashion
Delhites are known for keeping up with the newest fashion trends while also creating their own. Connaught Place (CP), Sarojini Nagar, Chandni Chowk, Lajpat Nagar, Tilak Nagar, and other markets in Delhi are great places to shop and explore. Dilliwala’s impart everything they touch with a ‘Desi' flavour. When it comes to fashion, Delhi is the epicentre of ethnic fashion.
4. Education and Career Options
Every student has aspired to enrol in one of India's top universities. Delhi is also known for having one of India's biggest and coolest universities – Delhi University, IIT Delhi, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Jamia Milia Islamia are among the best institutions with good academics, not only because they are the finest but also because they distinguish themselves at an international level. The National Capital Region (NCR) region is home to a wide range of multinational corporations (MNCs) in every industry, including engineering, medicine, and science.
5. Modes of Transport
Delhi has a diverse range of tourist attractions that draw a huge number of visitors on a daily basis. It is not difficult to get to the city because there are numerous transportation options available, including buses, trains, and flights from various parts of the country. You can travel within the city using DTC AC/non-AC buses, Metro, auto-rickshaws, and private/shared cabs. During a pandemic, the most efficient mode of transit within the city is the "Delhi Metro," which is well-run, well-maintained, clean, and safe.
I am proud to be a Dilliwala. Tell me what you like the most about Delhi.
