Understanding Respect & Self-Respect on National Respect Day
"Respect is one of the greatest expression of Love"
-Don Miguel Ruiz.
Respect is a way of thinking or appreciating someone or something. It's an overall calculation of a person's accomplishments, abilities, and characteristics. Since childhood, we've been taught to respect everyone, including our parents, teachers, elders, our country, and so on. Receiving respect from others is important because when we respect someone, we will receive respect in return.
Respect implies accepting someone for who they are, rather than criticising them based on their appearance, race, nationality and thoughts. When there is respect in a relationship, there is trust, and both parties cherish each other's opinions and advice. Respect is earned by learning in the same way that a child learns in school.
To promote greater respect for all people and to inspire others to do the same, National Respect Day is observed annually on 18th of September.
