Major Dhyan Chand, the Hockey Wizard - the pride of India and an eternal hero of Jhansi

The first name that often comes to us when we hear about Jhansi's smart city is VEERANGANA RANI LAXMI BAI. Indeed, a magnificent warrior who embodies the epitome of courage and bravery. She put in far too much effort to fight the British for India's independence. One of a renowned 1956 Padma Bhushan receiver is also from Jhansi. Major Dhyan Chand, the hockey wizard, settled in Jhansi after six years of schooling in Allahabad, following his father's several army deployments. He practised hockey at Hero's Ground, Sipri Bazar Jhansi. Hero's Ground, which was previously rocky and uneven, has been redeveloped by CM Yogi as a tribute to Major Dhyan. It now has a synthetic track, boundary walls, grass, lights, and three gates for player entry, and more to visit. Every year on August 29th, National Sports Day is observed in honor of Major Dhyan Chand's birthday.
