Balancing Multiple Identity as a Girl: A Day to Honour Your Daughter

 


The novel "A Girl Within A Girl Within A Girl" by Nanda Reddy, which will soon be available in bookstores, tells the story of a girl who adopts several identities in order to survive in front of her husband due to her past.

National Daughter's Day, observed annually on the fourth Sunday of September, aims to raise awareness about the potential of girls and empower them. This year, it will be observed on September 22. A girl can be a sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, friend, or colleague, and her life can be challenging.

India's government offers several initiatives for young women, such as: 

  1. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) aims to increase the child sex ratio, promote gender equality, and safeguard and educate girls.
  2. Pregnant and nursing mothers can receive financial assistance through the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)
  3. Girls from low-income families can receive financial support through the Balika Samriddhi Yojana (BSY).
  4. Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) was introduced as part of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative. A savings plan offered by SSY helps ensure a female child's financial stability until she reaches the age of 21.

Although the Indian government organizes measures to protect girl children, but daughters of India are as unsafe in the womb as they are in the outside world. Girls in India face many challenges, including violence, abuse, and exploitation. There is a need for a change in this huge world for women safety. If you are a parent, raise your daughter without thinking that just because she is a girl, she deserves less  and raise your son without giving him the impression that he is entitled to anything just because he is a guy.

On this Daughter's Day, support your daughter in following her passion, giving her the freedom to choose, helping her to resolve problems on her own, being confident, and helping her to believe in her own inner power and potential. She is a unique Supergirl. Instruct her to fight for what's rightfully hers.
