HARYANA MARTYRDOM DAY: HONORING TULARAM RAO, A FREEDOM FIGHTER OF THE 1857 REVOLUTION

Haryana residents, particularly families and children, embrace the fact that today is a holiday. They have a long weekend with Saturday, Sunday, and Monday off, so it's time to rest. The closure of Haryana's schools today remains a mystery to many.

Every year on September 23, the state of Haryana declares Shaheedi Diwas, also known as martyrdom day, as a public holiday to honour TULA RAM RAO, a freedom fighter who fought in the First War of Independence in 1857. Tularam was one of the main organizers of the rebellion against British power in northern India. Today is his death anniversary, September 23, 1863.

This day was commemorated by the state at the Gurgaon war memorial. Police officers salute and show their arms inverted as a sign of respect during the event.
